Massive fire consumes 25 hectares of Cherchara forest in Taza Authorities begin evacuating residents

A huge fire broke out on Wednesday evening in the Cherchara forest of the Bourd community in the Aknoul district of Taza region, consuming an estimated 25 hectares of forest cover within 12 hours, according to local sources.

In a press statement, Mourad Essaafdi, Regional Director of the National Agency for Water and Forests in Taza, confirmed that the fire affected pine and green oak trees, in addition to secondary vegetation formations, noting that the rescue operations were complicated by the difficult terrain and strong winds.

The rescue teams consisting of the army, gendarmerie, auxiliary forces, civil protection and the national agency are struggling to control and extinguish the fire, while local authorities were able to evacuate the local population to ensure their safety and the safety of the area affected by the fire.
