In an important step towards promoting regional development and cooperation between the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Fes-Meknes regions, a high-level meeting was held on Wednesday 15 May 2024, to discuss the project to build a viaduct on the Wahda Dam. This ambitious project aims to connect the regions of Taounate and Wazzan, which will contribute to reducing distances and catalysing economic growth in the region.
The meeting, chaired by Mr Larbi Mahrachi, Vice President of the Tangier-Tetouan-Hoceima Regional Council, was attended by prominent figures such as Mr Abdelhak Abou Salem, Vice President of the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, and executive and technical officials involved in the project. The meeting emphasised the strategic importance of the viaduct, not only in facilitating movement between the two regions, but also in supporting economic and local dynamism.
Preliminary technical studies were unveiled and the need to deepen these studies was emphasised to ensure the best technical solutions for the project. It was also agreed to conclude a partnership agreement between the two councils and relevant partners to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
The parties’ commitment to co-operation and joint action reflects the strong will to achieve sustainable development and improve the quality of life for the residents of the two regions. With the planned field visit, tangible progress is expected to be achieved in the coming months, paving the way for a prosperous future for both organisations. This project represents a model of regional cooperation and shows Morocco’s great potential in achieving regional integration and development.
