French Press Reports : “Morocco Prepares to Host the Opening Match of the 2030 World Cup, While Spain Will Host the Final”

According to French press reports, Morocco is strongly leaning towards hosting the opening match of the 2030 World Cup in a new stadium under construction in Casablanca, while the final will be held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Spain.

These expectations come amid growing anticipation for organizing the global event for the first time in Morocco’s history, after the Kingdom’s success in winning the right to host it in cooperation with Spain and Portugal.

According to the French magazine “Jeune Afrique,” the choice of Casablanca to host the opening ceremony is due to several factors, the most important of which are:

  • A Huge Stadium Project: Morocco is working on building a new stadium in Casablanca that is expected to be the largest in the world, with a capacity of 120,000 spectators. Moroccans undoubtedly want to invest in this huge sports complex to host one of the most important matches of the tournament.
  • Distinguished Relations with Spain: The magazine indicates that the good relations between Morocco and Spain facilitate the coordination and distribution of matches between the two countries, especially since Spain has the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, one of the most famous stadiums in the world, which will host the final.
  • Moroccan-Spanish rapprochement: Recent years have witnessed close cooperation between Morocco and Spain in various fields, including the sports field, which constitutes a suitable ground for the successful organization of the World Cup.

Negotiations to Distribute Matches:

“Jeune Afrique” confirms that the distribution of matches, including the opening and final, will be determined through political negotiations between the three countries, with the participation of the football federations.

Portugal Out of the Opening and Final Race:

The magazine indicates that Portugal is not a candidate to host either of the two matches, due to the lack of a stadium with sufficient capacity, as the capacity of its largest stadium does not exceed 65,000 spectators, while these two matches require a stadium with a capacity of at least 80,000 spectators.

Lakjaa’s Statements:

Last March, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, confirmed that the venue for the 2030 World Cup final has not yet been determined, indicating that “the country that will not host the final can host the opening match.”

Morocco’s nomination to host the opening ceremony of the 2030 World Cup embodies a great dream that Moroccans have had for decades, and represents a golden opportunity to strengthen the Kingdom’s position on the international level, boost tourism, develop infrastructure, and leave a positive mark on the history of world football.
