The Karian El Hajjaoui district, known for its gold trading activity, is witnessing a state of discontent and frustration among its residents and merchants, following the stalled paving works on Street No. 1, one of the area’s main thoroughfares.
Affected residents and merchants expressed their strong condemnation of what they described as “deliberate negligence” by the contractor in charge of the project, who excavated the main street and left it in its current state for more than three weeks without completing the paving works.
Several gold merchants emphasized that this situation has caused significant damage to their commercial activities, as customer access to their shops has become increasingly difficult. Residents also pointed out the risks posed by the street’s current condition to pedestrians’ safety, particularly elderly people and children.
The residents have issued an urgent appeal to the responsible authorities for immediate intervention and to compel the contractor to complete the works as soon as possible, questioning the real reasons behind this unjustified delay in project completion.
