Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita called on the European Union to translate its statements about partnership with Morocco into practical measures, during a press conference held in Rabat with the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, Olivér Várhelyi.
Bourita emphasized that the relationship between Rabat and Brussels is going through a critical phase marked by legal and economic tensions, indicating that Morocco expects the European Union to clarify how to overcome these challenges and provide signals and solutions that reflect its commitment to the partnership.
In light of the European Court of Justice’s decision to suspend trade agreements with Morocco, Bourita stressed that “the ball is now in the European Union’s court to provide answers, send signals, and find solutions.”
He added: “Morocco starts from the speech of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who affirmed that there will be no partnerships at the expense of national sovereignty. Rabat is committed to partnership with the European Union, but not at any cost or by crossing red lines.”
Bourita concluded by emphasizing that “to the extent that we express our commitment, we expect our partners to translate this commitment into actions,” stressing that Morocco seeks tangible evidence and concrete results because the relationship must be built on solid foundations.
