In a comprehensive interview, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita revealed details about Moroccan-French relations and the Kingdom’s position on current regional issues.
Bourita confirmed that French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Morocco marks a new chapter in bilateral relations, noting the signing of a joint declaration on “Enhanced Exceptional Partnership” between the two countries. He explained that this partnership is based on principles of equality, transparency, solidarity, and shared responsibility.
Regarding the Sahara issue, the Minister indicated that the new French position confirms that the region’s future falls within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, adding that Morocco’s autonomy initiative enjoys the support of more than 112 countries worldwide.
On immigration, Bourita confirmed that Morocco is closely cooperating with France in addressing irregular migration issues, emphasizing that the Kingdom will fulfill its responsibilities in accepting the return of its citizens residing illegally in France.
Concerning relations with Israel, the Minister stressed that resuming diplomatic relations with Israel does not mean abandoning the Palestinian cause, confirming that Morocco has strongly condemned Israeli attacks on civilians, hospitals, and schools.
Regarding the Sahel region, Bourita explained that Morocco has launched a royal initiative to break the isolation of Sahel countries by providing access to Moroccan ports and logistical infrastructure, confirming that the initiative has received positive responses from countries in the region.
