Morocco’s Interior Minister Abdelwafi Laftit, during a joint press conference with his French counterpart Bruno Retailleau in Rabat, affirmed the strength of security and migration cooperation between the two countries, highlighting the alignment of visions in addressing security challenges and exchanging information and expertise, particularly in counter-terrorism.
Laftit explained that the discussions, which took place on the sidelines of French President Emmanuel Macron’s official visit to Morocco, addressed ways to enhance cooperation in line with the aspirations of the Moroccan monarch and the French President toward an exceptional partnership.
Regarding migration, the Minister revealed a comprehensive plan that includes facilitating legal mobility, combating illegal immigration, and cooperation in readmission matters, focusing on coordination between countries of origin, transit, and residence according to the principle of shared responsibility.
Concerning unaccompanied minors, Laftit referenced royal directives to regularize their situation, confirming the establishment of protection and training centers for their reception. A technical cooperation action plan was also signed with France in this area.
In the field of drug control, the Minister highlighted Morocco’s comprehensive strategy based on combating trafficking networks, reducing supply, and strengthening international cooperation, describing the security cooperation between the two countries as “distinguished and sustainable.”
