Morocco Participates in International Conference to Support Lebanon in Paris

On Thursday, October 24, 2024, Morocco took part in the International Conference to Support Lebanon, held in the French capital, Paris.

Morocco was represented by Ambassador Fouad Yazough, Director General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

The conference, called by French President Emmanuel Macron, served as a platform for uniting international efforts to support the Lebanese people and provide essential aid to the country’s institutions amid the ongoing crisis.

The event saw broad participation from partner countries, as well as the United Nations, the European Union, international and regional organizations, and civil society groups, all working together to mobilize support for Lebanon as it faces significant humanitarian and security challenges.

In his opening speech, President Macron emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire and announced a French aid package worth 100 million euros.

He also underscored the importance of strengthening the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces to ensure stability in the southern region of the country.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres echoed these sentiments, urging Lebanese leaders to take decisive action to stabilize state institutions and warning of the growing security and political challenges facing Lebanon.

Guterres stressed the importance of supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces as a key element in building a safe and stable future for the country.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, addressing the international community, called for united efforts to find solutions to end the military escalation between Hezbollah and Israel.

He also urged full adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which provides a framework for stabilizing southern Lebanon and ensuring border safety.

The conference comes at a critical time as the international community seeks to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to Lebanon while engaging in diplomatic efforts to restore peace and stability to a country grappling with multiple crises.
