Poultry markets in Morocco have witnessed a significant decrease in prices, leading to the announcement of the end of the cost of living crisis that has affected citizens in recent months. According to statements from producers and breeders, the price of one kilogram of chicken has stabilized in national markets at around 19 dirhams.
Professional sources in the poultry sector reported that the price of chicken in wholesale markets dropped to 16 dirhams at the end of September. These sources attributed the decrease to reduced demand and the return of balance to the poultry market.
Mustafa Al-Muntasir, President of the National Association of Poultry Meat Producers, confirmed that the decrease began gradually at the beginning of the current week. He expects this price to continue in the coming months, pointing to the return of production to its usual levels.
For his part, Said Janah, Secretary-General of the National Association of Broiler Chicken Breeders, confirmed this decline, adding that the price of chicks has also seen a decrease.
However, Ali Shtour, President of the Moroccan Association for Consumer Rights Defense, warned of possible “speculators’ maneuvers” following each price decrease. He called on the government to exercise continuous control over markets and maintain a balance between supply and demand.
It’s worth noting that poultry prices had seen an unprecedented rise in recent months, reaching 30 dirhams per kilogram in August. Producers attributed this increase to higher demand due to the rising cost of red meat, the return of the Moroccan diaspora, and the coincidence with the wedding season.
