Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch on Thursday represented King Mohammed VI at the inauguration ceremony of Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, who was re-elected for a second term in the elections held on June 29.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Palais des Congrès in Nouakchott, in the presence of a group of heads of state and heads of government.
During the event, Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani was sworn in to start a new five-year term. Akhannouch was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Nouakchott, Hamid Chabar.
King Mohammed VI sent a cable of congratulations to President Ghazouani on his re-election, expressing his strong determination to strengthen relations between the two neighboring countries.
In his cable, the King stated that this occasion provides an opportunity to strengthen and develop cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania, within the framework of a model partnership that reflects the strong ties and solidarity between the two peoples.
Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani won the election in the first round, securing 56.12% of Mauritanian voters’ votes.
