Azerbaijan’s parliament approves visa exemption for Moroccans

In an important step to strengthen bilateral relations, the Azerbaijani parliament has passed a bill on visa cancellation between Morocco and Azerbaijan. The decision comes in implementation of the agreement signed between the two countries last May.

Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov signed the visa-free agreement for holders of ordinary passports on 4 May on the sidelines of the 15th Islamic Summit held in Banjul, Gambia.

The draft law on approval of the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco on the cancellation of the visa requirement for holders of ordinary passports” was included in the agenda of the Azerbaijani Parliament session on Tuesday. After discussion, the text was put to a vote and adopted in one reading.

The visa cancellation aims to facilitate the entry of citizens of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Azerbaijan, holding valid ordinary passports, into both countries exclusively for tourism purposes.

This step would strengthen relations between the two countries and encourage tourism and cultural exchange between their peoples, opening new horizons for joint co-operation in various fields.
