Florence Square is one of the most prominent landmarks in the ancient city of Fez, its pulsating heart, and a witness to its rich history.
But over the years, the square has suffered from neglect and deterioration, losing its luster and shine, until it came to reflect an image completely different from what it was in the past.
In recognition of the importance of this square and its historical and cultural value, the local authorities in Fez have taken an important step towards its rehabilitation and revival, through a comprehensive restoration project being implemented by the Al Omrane group.
Comprehensive restoration project
The Florence Square rehabilitation project includes several components, the most important of which are:
- Reorganizing the public space of the square: The public space of the square will be reorganized to suit the needs of the old city, while taking into account the preservation of the square’s architectural and historical character.
- Infrastructure rehabilitation: Restoration work includes rehabilitating sewage and water networks, in addition to creating a new lighting network.
- Renovation and beautification of facilities: The existing facilities in the square, such as fountains, trees, and benches, will be renovated and beautified, with the addition of new facilities to serve visitors.
- Providing green spaces: New green spaces will be allocated within the square to create a more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable environment for visitors.
- Enhancing security: Security in the square will be enhanced through the installation of surveillance cameras and adequate lighting.
Project cost
The cost of the Florence Square rehabilitation project is 10.5 million Moroccan dirhams, and the project has been awarded to “Macharii Al Baraka” company based in Fez and “Smatri” company based in Errachidia.
