In a tragic incident that has shaken the residents of the Oulad Azem village, located in the Bouladil commune of Taounate province, the community awoke last Saturday to the news of a murder in which a woman in her sixties lost her life. The crime was committed by her brother during a violent dispute over family inheritance.
According to available information, tensions had been escalating between the siblings due to disagreements concerning the family’s inheritance. The perpetrator sought to sell a piece of land in order to marry a woman who would help him care for his children from a previous marriage. However, his sister refused to sell the land, which led to heated arguments between them. Neighbors reported that the perpetrator had been suffering from health issues but was generally described as a kind and well-liked person in the community.
Details of the incident reveal that the heated argument between the siblings escalated into a violent confrontation, ending with the brother physically assaulting his sister, resulting in her death at the scene.
After committing the crime, the perpetrator voluntarily turned himself in to the Royal Gendarmerie. Local authorities and the gendarmerie promptly arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and took initial necessary measures, while an in-depth investigation was launched under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to determine the circumstances surrounding the crime.
The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue at the Taounate regional hospital for a post-mortem examination, and the suspect was arrested and placed under police custody pending further investigations and his eventual appearance before the court.
This heartbreaking incident highlights the tragic reality of family disputes related to inheritance, which can sometimes escalate into violent events. It underscores the urgent need for greater awareness about resolving conflicts through dialogue and understanding or by resorting to legal channels to avoid painful consequences that can harm families and society as a whole.
