The cleaning sector in the city of Fez is experiencing a noticeable deterioration, with many neighborhoods suffering from unprecedented garbage accumulation and spread, sparking anger and outrage among residents who expressed fears about the health and environmental impacts of this situation.
According to testimonies from a number of citizens, garbage collection services have significantly declined in several neighborhoods, leading to the spread of garbage in alleys and streets, some of which have turned into makeshift dumps. They pointed out that garbage bins have become dilapidated and surrounded by piles of waste, posing a health hazard to residents, especially in densely populated residential areas.
In phone calls, residents of several neighborhoods, particularly new residential complexes along the Ain Chkef road, expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the lack of garbage monitoring and collection in the area’s alleys, the irregular passage of garbage collection trucks, and the absence of effective mechanisms to monitor the implementation of cleaning contracts by the company delegated to manage the sector.
Residents called on the responsible authorities to intervene urgently to address this crisis, improve cleaning services, and activate monitoring mechanisms to ensure the delegated company’s compliance with the contract terms. They also called for the provision of sufficient garbage bins, their regular maintenance, and the intensification of awareness campaigns on the importance of maintaining the city’s cleanliness.
