Sports Observer: Football Clubs in the Fes-Meknes Region Involved in Serious Public Fund Misuse

A sports and football affairs observer in the Fes-Meknes region stated in an exclusive interview with Fes News that the current financial situation of national football clubs in the region “amounts to serious financial crimes,” as he put it.

The same source explained that the continued reliance of these clubs on public subsidies from local municipalities represents an ongoing drain on state finances. He pointed out that club administrations in the region have failed for years to achieve the necessary financial independence.

The observer stated that this situation contradicts Morocco’s current direction, which aims to develop the sports economy and generate significant revenues in this field. He added: “It is unacceptable for sports clubs in the Fes-Meknes region to continue begging for public support instead of becoming productive entities that contribute to boosting the sports economy at both the regional and national levels.”

He called on the relevant authorities to launch serious investigations into how public funds allocated to sports clubs are spent and to work on a comprehensive financial and administrative restructuring of these clubs to ensure the intended goals of the national sports economy are achieved.
