A number of residents from the villages of Ouled Boutine and Ouled Ghazal began, on Friday, March 28, 2025, repairing a road that connects the village of Sidi Sousan to the village of Tamdaghass, after it was damaged by the recent rainfall, according to local sources.
The sources confirmed that the deterioration of the road due to the rain made travel nearly impossible, prompting the local population to organize a volunteer initiative to repair it, reflecting the spirit of solidarity in the face of isolation.
The sources also indicated that the operation saw wide participation from the residents despite the challenging weather conditions, alongside support from the Ben Walid Municipal Council by providing equipment. Volunteers also contributed to purchasing materials to strengthen the road’s infrastructure.
The sources called for intensified efforts to find sustainable solutions to improve road infrastructure in mountainous areas, especially those that are damaged with the first rainfall, exacerbating the suffering of the residents.
Given the repeated suffering of residents in mountainous villages due to the deterioration of infrastructure, local sources renewed their call for the relevant authorities to intervene urgently to find lasting solutions to this issue. Repairing rural roads should not be left solely to volunteer initiatives but should involve serious development programs to ensure the removal of isolation for the residents, especially during rainy periods, which worsen their hardship. Therefore, providing resilient and permanent infrastructure has become an urgent necessity, requiring the mobilization of efforts and resources to guarantee citizens’ right to safe and easy mobility.
