In recent days, Taza has witnessed an unprecedented crowding at bank ATMs due to a significant surge in cash withdrawal requests, according to local sources. This increased pressure has led to a noticeable decline in cash liquidity, resulting in the disruption of withdrawal operations at several bank branches in the city.
The sources indicate that this situation has been caused by the coincidence of salary payments to public and private sector employees with preparations for Eid al-Fitr, where Moroccan families are purchasing clothes, gifts, and covering travel and family visit expenses. This has, in turn, led to a higher demand for cash.
Citizens, in their statements, confirmed that many ATMs could no longer meet the withdrawal demands, prompting some individuals to travel between various branches searching for functioning ATMs, while others had to change their areas of withdrawal to avoid the overcrowding.
A number of citizens have called for the intervention of relevant authorities to increase liquidity at bank ATMs, particularly during peak times, to prevent the recurrence of such a crisis in future occasions.
