Morocco Extradites Algerian National Wanted in International Drug Trafficking Case

In a move that underscores Morocco’s commitment to combating transnational organized crime, Moroccan security authorities extradited an Algerian national wanted by his country’s justice system on Wednesday, via the “Jouj Bghal” border crossing east of Oujda city.

This extradition comes within the framework of international security cooperation and Morocco’s commitment to implementing international cooperation mechanisms in extraditing individuals wanted in organized crime cases, despite the strained bilateral relations and Algeria’s intransigence in obstructing security cooperation channels between the two countries.

The extradition process was carried out in accordance with the provisions of international agreements related to combating drug trafficking and transnational organized crime, and within the framework of the extradition procedure to which Morocco adheres in its international security cooperation.

Moroccan security services had arrested the Algerian national, named “Mohamed,” 31 years old, on suspicion of involvement in cases related to drug possession and trafficking. The accused had served two years in prison in Morocco before the judicial authorities issued a decision to extradite him to Algeria, in response to an official request from the Algerian authorities.

Informed sources confirmed that the accused was the subject of an international arrest warrant due to his involvement in illicit drug trafficking networks.
