Fez-Meknes Regional Health Directorate Joins in Commemorating World Tuberculosis Day, Launching a National Plan to Combat the Disease

In observance of World Tuberculosis Day, which falls on March 24th each year, the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection in the Fez-Meknes region, like other regions across the Kingdom, has joined in this occasion under the slogan “Yes! We can end TB!,” chosen by the World Health Organization for this year.

Official data from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, released on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, revealed that the number of new tuberculosis cases in Morocco reached 33,036 during 2024, with the Fez-Meknes region alone recording 3,977 new cases.

In this context, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has launched a national strategic plan to combat tuberculosis for the period 2024-2030, in line with the World Health Organization’s strategy and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This plan focuses on the socio-economic and environmental determinants of the disease, adopting a participatory rights-based approach across various sectors.

The commemoration of World Tuberculosis Day includes the official launch of the national strategic plan and the regional strategic plans derived from it, with an emphasis on combating tuberculosis among adolescents and youth. It also highlights the active role of healthcare professionals, particularly in youth health spaces and university health centers, in raising awareness, educating, and preventing this disease.
