In a move to escalate pressure, the Arab League has called on member states to sever all forms of military and economic cooperation with Israel, in response to the recent Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. The decision was made during an emergency meeting of the Arab League to discuss the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on the Strip.
The Arab League urged member states to take gradual steps to reduce military cooperation with Israel and impose a comprehensive economic boycott. It emphasized that continued trade and military relations with Israel implicitly mean complicity in the attacks on Gaza. The League also called on member states to provide political and financial support for the Gaza reconstruction plan.
Reports indicate that several Arab countries, including Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan, are considering options to cut ties with Israel, which have seen a significant improvement in recent years, particularly after the Abraham Accords brokered by the United States. In this context, the organization “Democracy for the Arab World Now” (DAWN) called on the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan to immediately withdraw from the Abraham Accords. It also called on Egypt and Jordan, which have peace treaties with Israel, to end all forms of military coordination with it, due to what it described as “war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel in Gaza.”
The Arab League strongly condemned the renewed Israeli aggression against Gaza, which effectively ended the ceasefire. It demanded the lifting of the Israeli siege imposed on the Strip and called on the United States to pressure Israel to implement the remaining phases of the ceasefire. The Arab League also denounced the continued Israeli raids in the West Bank, which have led to the displacement of hundreds of Palestinians and the demolition of dozens of homes.
The Arab League stressed the need for concerted Arab and international efforts to stop the violence in Gaza, protect Palestinian civilians, and work towards achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.
