Bourita receives Ambassador Jean-Paul Carteron, founder of the Crans Montana Forum

Jean-Paul Carteron is a renowned diplomat and the founder of the Crans Montana Forum, a prestigious international organization that hosts high-level gatherings focused on global issues, including maritime security and economic development. Recently, Ambassador Carteron was honored to meet with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita as part of preparations for the upcoming Crans Montana Forum session in Casablanca, scheduled for April 24-26, 2025.

The Crans Montana Forum has been a significant platform for discussing strategic issues since its inception 40 years ago. The upcoming session in Casablanca will focus on African international trade, maritime safety, and the security of ports and navigable routes. This event aligns with Morocco’s commitment to South-South cooperation and regional integration, emphasizing the Atlantic opening and maritime security challenges.

Ambassador Carteron has highlighted the importance of maritime security for Africa’s development, noting that 90% of the continent’s economy relies on maritime trade. He also emphasized the role of strategic partnerships, such as those between Morocco and the UAE, in driving economic growth through business and investment rather than political influence.

The forum will feature discussions on enhancing human and technical capacities to protect African coastlines, modernizing port infrastructure through digitalization, and strengthening operational logistics. Additionally, it will address health sovereignty and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, calling for stronger international cooperation in public health preparedness and response.

Carteron’s vision includes promoting the maritime industry as an opportunity for women, emphasizing the need to overcome gender barriers in this traditionally male-dominated sector. He views the industry as a significant opening for women and a matter of fundamental human rights.
