Breaking: The Supreme Council of Ulema Sets the Amount for Zakat al-Fitr for 1446 AH / 2025

The Supreme Council of Ulema in Morocco has announced the fixed amount for Zakat al-Fitr for the year 1446 AH, corresponding to 2025. The council has set the amount at 23 Moroccan dirhams per person.

In an official statement, the council emphasized that Zakat al-Fitr is a mandatory charity for Muslims, prescribed by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a means of purification for the fasting person from idle talk and misconduct, and as sustenance for the needy. It must be given before the Eid al-Fitr prayer.

The statement clarified that the original form of Zakat is to be given from the staple food of the country, equivalent to a Prophetic sa‘ (approximately 2.5 kilograms of grains or a similar staple food). It also noted that it is permissible to give it in monetary form, based on the specified amount. Additionally, the council stated that those who wish to give more are encouraged to do so, in line with the Quranic verse: “And whoever volunteers excess – it is better for him. But if you fast, it is better for you, if you only knew.”

The Supreme Council of Ulema concluded its statement with prayers, asking Allah to accept the fasting and charity of all Muslims and to make it purely for His sake.
