Fes News Reports: Some Countries Declare Saturday as the Start of Ramadan, Others Postpone to Sunday

Several Arab and Islamic countries have announced that Saturday, March 1, 2025, marks the first day of the holy month of Ramadan. Among these countries are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Yemen, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt.

Meanwhile, other countries, including Malaysia, Brunei, Pakistan, and Japan, have declared that Sunday, March 2, 2025, will be the first day of Ramadan due to the inability to sight the crescent moon on Friday evening.

In Iraq, there was a division in determining the start of the holy month. The Sunni Endowment Office announced that Ramadan would begin on Saturday, while the office of Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani stated that the month would commence on Sunday.

As for Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, and Mauritania, no official announcements had been made regarding the start of Ramadan at the time of this report.

It is noteworthy that the determination of Ramadan’s beginning is based on moon sighting, which sometimes leads to variations in fasting start dates among Islamic nations.
