Smuggling of 53,000 hallucinogenic tablets thwarted at Beni Ansar port A major blow to international drug networks

Moroccan security services managed, in a joint operation between national security and customs officers at Beni Ansar port in Nador, on Wednesday morning, to thwart an attempt to smuggle 53,400 hallucinogenic tablets, resulting in the arrest of two individuals, aged 20 and 33, suspected of being linked to a criminal network active in the international trafficking of psychotropic substances.

According to a statement issued by the General Directorate of National Security, the first suspect was arrested upon his arrival on board a cruise ship coming from a European port, where thorough searches conducted by security officers resulted in the discovery inside his car of a large quantity of “Ecstasy” tablets.

Security investigations also enabled the identification of a second suspect suspected of participating in this criminal operation, who was arrested in the vicinity of Beni Ansar port during a careful security operation.

The two suspects were placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecution, with the aim of shedding light on all the circumstances of this case, identifying other potential accomplices, as well as identifying the local and international reach of this criminal network.

This successful operation is part of the ongoing security efforts to combat the international trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and to strengthen proactive interventions to monitor various criminal activities that threaten national security, especially cross-border organized crime.
