Moroccan activists have launched a wide campaign on social media calling for a boycott of sardines to protest the unjustified rise in their prices, under the hashtag #Khaleh_Khanaz, which has received widespread popularity among citizens.

The campaign comes in the context of rising fish prices as Ramadan approaches, which sparked great discontent, especially after a local committee visited fish shops in Marrakech, where sardines were offered at a price of five dirhams per kilogram.
In the midst of these developments, the authorities decided to close the fish shop of a young Marrakech man, Abdelilah, known on social media platforms for his discounted prices, which sparked widespread controversy, with some seeing the decision as a “punishment” for exposing speculation in the fish market.
As the controversy escalates, popular demands are growing for the government to intervene to impose strict control over the prices of basic foodstuffs and take deterrent measures against speculators who exploit the livelihood of citizens.
