At a time when the Fes Meknes region is experiencing successive crises, whether in the field of real estate, health, investment, or even infrastructure, citizens’ eyes are turning to the governor as the last hope to fix what has been spoiled by years of haphazard management and lame decisions made by some elected officials, who have brought nothing but troubles and developmental regressions to the region.
“Dalwali’s service is the only thing that makes people happy,” said a number of citizens who have lost hope in the elected officials, especially after the scandals that erupted around some of them, especially those related to the Fayek gang, which became a symbol of political and electoral corruption.
The reality today in the region raises deep questions about the role of elected councils, which are supposed to be the voice of the citizen and the pillar of development, but have turned into a theater of personal conflicts, favoritism, and the search for privileges, at a time when the governor of the region is leading several initiatives to stimulate investment, improve infrastructure, and move stalled projects.
“The governor is a servant. Elected officials are only concerned with their own interests.”
The difference has become clear between those who work resolutely and according to a clear vision to advance the region, and those who accumulate mistakes and look for political loyalties and personal interests. Fes and Meknes, two historic cities, are now in need of officials who will restore their status as a development locomotive instead of being held hostage in the hands of elected officials who have made nothing but empty promises.
In light of this reality, it is no wonder that citizens raise the slogan “corrupt elected officials to the dustbin of history” and pin their hopes on the governor, who has become a symbol of hard work, away from the narrow political calculations that have harmed the interests of the population.
But the question remains: How long will elected officials remain a burden on development instead of being part of the solution? Will the concerned authorities move to hold accountable those who exploited their position to serve their personal interests at the expense of the public interest?
