Mike Waltz, the future National Security Advisor in Donald Trump’s administration, stated on Sunday that the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas “will never govern Gaza again.” This assertion was made during an interview with CNN, just hours after a ceasefire took effect between Hamas and Israel following more than 15 months of conflict.
Waltz, who currently serves as a Republican representative from Florida, emphasized that Hamas can no longer be considered a terrorist organization and will not regain control over Gaza. He explained that “Israel will do what is necessary, with the support of the United States, to ensure that Hamas never governs Gaza again.”
However, he noted that the path ahead will be challenging, as pockets of resistance may emerge within the territory and sporadic clashes with Hamas fighters could continue. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence in Trump’s ability to bring parties together like no one else has done before.
Waltz also mentioned the potential deployment of security forces supported by Arab nations, including Palestinians, to maintain order and ensure stability in the region.
These comments come amid rising tensions and ongoing discussions about the future governance of Gaza as the area seeks to recover from the extensive destruction caused by the prolonged conflict.
