Vegetable Prices Rise in Morocco: Tomatoes Exceed 10 Dirhams per Kilogram

Over the past week, vegetable markets in Morocco have experienced noticeable price increases. “Al-Ahdath Al-Maghribia” reported during a tour of some markets in Casablanca that there has been a significant rise in the prices of various essential vegetables.

The price of tomatoes has reached 10 dirhams per kilogram, and in some upscale markets in the economic capital, this price has even exceeded that amount. As for other vegetables, the price of potatoes has risen to 7 dirhams, while bell peppers are now priced at 8 dirhams. Both onions and eggplants have reached 6 dirhams each, while the price of carrots has remained stable at 6 dirhams per kilogram.

According to Rashid Al-Shawi, a vendor at the wholesale market in Casablanca, the reasons for this sudden increase after a period of price stability are attributed to several factors, including the current cold wave affecting Morocco and an increase in exports.
