Official Agreement Reached for Ceasefire Between Hamas and Israel

Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced on Wednesday evening the successful mediation efforts led by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, resulting in an agreement between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as well as an exchange of prisoners and hostages.

The Qatari Prime Minister confirmed that a permanent and sustainable ceasefire agreement has been established between the two sides, along with the delivery of substantial amounts of food and humanitarian aid to Gaza.

He explained that the ceasefire agreement will take effect starting January 19, with the exact hour to be determined later.

With both parties agreeing to the deal, efforts will be made tonight to finalize all implementation procedures. The first phase of the agreement, lasting 42 days, will see a cessation of hostilities and a withdrawal of Israeli forces eastward, away from densely populated areas to positions along the border throughout Gaza. This agreement also includes a structured exchange of prisoners and hostages, as well as the return of displaced persons to their homes while facilitating the departure of sick and injured individuals for medical treatment.

According to the Prime Minister, the first phase will also intensify the entry of humanitarian aid and ensure its safe and effective distribution across Gaza, alongside rehabilitating hospitals, health centers, bakeries, and providing civil defense supplies and fuel for displaced persons who lost their homes due to the conflict.

Hamas will release 33 Israeli detainees during this first phase, including civilian women, recruits, children, elderly individuals, and injured civilians in exchange for a number of Israeli prisoners held in detention centers.

Details regarding the second and third phases will be agreed upon during the implementation of the first phase.

Qatar emphasized its commitment to working with Egypt and the United States to ensure that all parties fulfill their obligations and to continue negotiations for implementing subsequent phases. It also called for international efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.
