Morocco is expressing its dissatisfaction with Israel’s publication of maps depicting “historical Israel,” which includes territories belonging to Arab countries such as Palestine, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. In a statement released by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was emphasized that these misleading maps harm peace efforts in the region and jeopardize the two-state solution, as well as the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
This move comes at a time when Morocco is experiencing increasing tensions with Israel, as Moroccan authorities consider the publication of these maps a blatant violation of international laws and resolutions. Palestine and Jordan have also expressed their discontent with this action, viewing it as detrimental to peace efforts and a provocation to the Arab nation.
In a related context, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized Israel for timing the publication of these maps alongside incendiary statements from far-right Israeli officials like Bezalel Smotrich, who has advocated for the annexation of the West Bank. These statements raise concerns among Arab countries and heighten regional tensions.
Arab nations, including Morocco, are seeking to strengthen their stance against Israeli policies that they perceive as threats to security and stability in the region. The current situation calls for immediate diplomatic action from the international community to ensure respect for Palestinian rights and to promote efforts aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
