SNRT Prepares to Merge Major Channels: A Strategic Move to Enhance Moroccan Media

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening and developing public media in Morocco, Faïçal Laraïchi, the President and CEO of the National Radio and Television Company (SNRT), announced that SNRT will fully acquire 2M Channel, Medi 1 TV, as well as 83.6% of Medi 1 Radio and Regie 3 within two months.

This announcement came during a meeting with the Education, Culture, and Communication Committee in the House of Representatives, where Laraïchi clarified that this initiative is not merely about creating a new company but aims to make SNRT the parent company of all public channels. Significant progress has been made in the legal and financial aspects related to the acquisition of 2M.

Laraïchi pointed out that this consolidation responds to the government’s vision of unifying resources and reducing costs in the media sector. This new structure will also help improve production efficiency and expand media coverage. He emphasized the importance of utilizing existing equipment rather than purchasing new ones, which will contribute to cost reduction.

Despite these changes, Laraïchi stressed the necessity of maintaining the editorial identity of each channel, indicating that there will be no imposition of control over the content or programming of 2M and Medi 1.

This step is part of broader efforts to restructure public media in Morocco and reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing local production and improving the quality of content provided to the audience.
