Businessman Related to Akhannouch’s Minister Arrested at Airport on International Drug Trafficking Charges

Police at Rabat-Salé Airport have arrested a businessman who was preparing to travel to a European country to celebrate the New Year, after discovering that he was subject to a national arrest warrant issued by the judicial police in Tangier. The arrest took place during a routine check in the automated system at the passport control desk.

The suspect, who was found to be the husband of a daughter of a current government minister, was taken to the airport police station to record the arrest and inform the Tangier police for his transfer and to initiate investigations under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.

Initial investigations revealed that the individual is accused of international drug trafficking, which he denied during his initial questioning. However, the public prosecutor issued instructions to search his residence in the Sidi Abid Qanadel area in Salé province, where a search operation was conducted in coordination with royal gendarmerie forces. The arrested individual has been placed under police custody for further investigation, aimed at determining the circumstances of the case and uncovering any potential network involved with him before presenting him to the public prosecutor at the Tangier Court of First Instance.

This operation is part of Morocco’s intensified efforts to enhance security and combat transnational crimes, particularly international drug trafficking networks, reflecting the determination of security forces to address such issues with firmness and rigor.
