During the week from December 30 to January 5, 2025, Morocco witnessed a tragic toll of 22 fatalities and 2,824 injuries, with 115 of those injuries classified as serious, resulting from 2,153 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, the primary causes of these accidents, listed in order of prevalence, include driver inattention, failure to respect right-of-way, pedestrian inattention, excessive speed, failure to maintain a safe distance, loss of vehicle control, non-compliance with stop signs, changing direction without signaling, improper overtaking, driving in prohibited directions, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on the left side of the road, failure to stop at red lights, and unauthorized lane changes.
In terms of traffic monitoring and enforcement operations, security services recorded 47,556 violations and completed 8,306 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office. They also collected 39,250 fines amounting to 8 million and 507 thousand dirhams.
The report noted that the number of vehicles impounded reached 4,855, while the number of documents confiscated totaled 8,306. Additionally, 374 vehicles were subjected to suspension due to violations.
