Mauritania has announced the launch of an electronic visa (e-Visa) for Moroccan nationals wishing to travel to the country. In a recent statement, the General Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in Casablanca declared that starting from January 5, 2025, applications for the e-Visa can be submitted through the official website: anrpts.gov.mr.
According to the statement, this measure applies to nationals from all countries worldwide, except for those with which Mauritania has mutual visa exemption agreements. There are 18 such countries, ten of which are in Africa: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Niger, Côte d’Ivoire, and Chad. However, for some countries, including Morocco, the visa exemption only applies to diplomatic and service passports.
Notably, Morocco is the only country in the Maghreb whose nationals are required to obtain a visa to enter Mauritania. This new e-Visa system is part of Mauritania’s efforts to modernize its administrative procedures and facilitate travel for foreign visitors.
