United Protest Stand Against the Strike Law Bill

The Moroccan capital, Rabat, witnessed today a massive protest stand in front of the Parliament building, called for by the National Front for the Defense of the Right to Strike. This stand came to express categorical rejection of the draft organic law on strikes in its current form, which the government seeks to pass.

The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the government’s insistence on passing this bill without considering the amendments proposed by trade unions, political organizations, and human rights groups. They considered this insistence a disregard for the demands of workers and undermines the foundations of social dialogue.

Participants in the stand demanded that the government review its unilateral approach and stop exploiting its parliamentary majority to bypass social and rights components. They emphasized the need to involve all parties in discussing this project to ensure a real consensus that reflects the aspirations of all segments of society.

The protesters raised slogans affirming their adherence to the right to strike as stipulated in the constitution and international conventions, and their rejection of any infringement on workers’ rights. They also called for genuine social dialogue and consensus on laws that affect the lives of workers and citizens.

The Democratic Labor Organization, one of the organizations participating in the stand, affirmed its continuation in the struggle to guarantee labor rights, emphasizing its rejection of any attempt to reduce trade union rights and freedoms.

It is worth noting that this protest stand comes in the context of the ongoing debate about the strike law bill, which trade union organizations have described as “restrictive” and constituting “an assault on trade union freedoms and social gains.”
