Parliamentary Friendship Group Prepares to Push Morocco-Peru Relations to New Heights

In a significant move towards strengthening bilateral relations between Morocco and Peru, the Parliamentary Friendship Group between the two countries has unveiled ambitious initiatives aimed at deepening cooperation across various fields. This revelation came during a ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s historic visit to Peru in 2004.

Ernesto Bustamante, the head of the Morocco-Peru Parliamentary Friendship Group, presented several proposals designed to elevate the level of relations between the two nations. Among the most prominent initiatives is the call for a free trade agreement between Morocco and Peru, which would enhance trade exchange and open new horizons for economic cooperation.

Bustamante also emphasized the need to eliminate entry visas for Moroccan tourists, applying the principle of reciprocity, as Morocco had already waived this requirement for Peruvian citizens since 2017. This step would facilitate tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries.

Another important initiative proposed by Bustamante is the call to open a Peruvian consulate in the Moroccan city of Dakhla. He affirmed that this move would make Peru the first South American country to take such an initiative, thereby strengthening diplomatic relations between the two nations and opening new avenues for cooperation.

To boost economic cooperation, Bustamante suggested establishing a strategic agreement linking the recently opened port of Chancay in Peru with the Atlantic port of Dakhla in Morocco. This step would enhance trade exchange and open new maritime corridors between South America and Africa.

These initiatives garnered significant interest from the Peruvian Congress members present at the ceremony, reflecting a shared desire to strengthen bilateral relations. Patricia Juárez Gallegos, First Vice President of the Peruvian Congress, emphasized the importance of these initiatives, noting that dedicating a day to Morocco in the Peruvian Congress is an expression of mutual respect and the desire to enhance parliamentary dialogue and exchange experiences.

In conclusion, these ambitious initiatives reflect the shared desire of Morocco and Peru to elevate their relations to higher levels, promising a bright future for bilateral cooperation in various political, economic, and cultural fields.
