Urban Renewal in Fes: Public Space Freed on Imouzzer Road in Preparation for 2030 World Cup

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the urban landscape and upgrade Fes’ infrastructure in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup, Mr. Zahim Abdel Rahim, Chief of the Ain Ameur district, oversaw a field campaign today, December 4, 2024, to reclaim public spaces along Imouzzer Road. This initiative is a direct response to directives from Mr. Moaz Jamai, Governor of the Fes-Meknes region, aimed at organizing and restoring public areas in alignment with developmental plans.

The operation involved a specialized topographical survey team, which identified encroachments on public land ranging from 4 to 5 meters in certain locations, particularly near several villas along Imouzzer Road.

These violations were removed following established legal procedures, demonstrating the authorities’ commitment to enforcing the law and safeguarding public spaces.

This move underscores the dedication of regional and city officials to preparing for the global sporting event. It reflects a holistic vision to position Fes as a prominent and exemplary urban center. Moreover, the operation conveys a clear message about the city’s commitment to sustainable development and its ambition to meet international urban planning standards.
