The city of Meknes is set to welcome guests from across the globe as it transforms into a vibrant international stage during the Meknes Theater Festival: Meknes, a Stage for the Theaters of the World. Organized by the Theater Shamat Troupe, the event will run from December 11 to 15, 2024, with support from the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, in partnership with the Municipality of Meknes, the Prefectural Council, and the Fes-Meknes Regional Council.
This cultural milestone serves as a unique meeting point for theater artists from Morocco, Burkina Faso, France, Spain, Tunisia, Syria, and Iraq, celebrating the finest expressions of theatrical creativity. Among its highlights is a tribute to renowned Moroccan theater figures, including actor and director Idriss El Roch, actress Wassila Sobhi, and actor Abdelhaq Belmjadd, acknowledging their pioneering contributions to the art scene.
The festival’s performances will take place in iconic venues such as the Mohammed El Menouni Cultural Center and the French Institute. Accompanying the shows is a rich program of workshops and open discussions featuring distinguished figures like writer Rachid Benzine, Iraqi director Kazem Nassar, and Burkinabé actress and writer Oliva Ouedraogo, fostering cultural and artistic dialogue.
The festival’s opening ceremony promises to set the stage for an inspiring artistic journey, featuring a diverse lineup of creative performances at the Mohammed El Menouni Cultural Center. The inaugural show, The Wall, presented by the Ard Chaouen Troupe for Cultures and directed by Yassine Ahjam, will officially kick off the theatrical celebrations.
