Innovative Urban Development: Mobile Park Project Launched in Fes to Enhance Environmental Sustainability

As part of efforts to foster environmental development and improve the quality of life in urban areas, the Private University of Fes launched a unique project on November 22, 2024, in collaboration with the “Initiatives for Women’s Rights Protection” association. The project aims to design a mobile park to serve the residents of the Jnane El-Ward district, especially neighborhoods near the old city.

This initiative is part of a broader vision to rehabilitate vacant spaces within neighborhoods and transform them into green areas that promote environmental sustainability and enhance community safety.

Professor Yassine Mohcine, a faculty member at both the Private University of Fes and Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, emphasized the significance of the project as a practical exercise for students specializing in architecture, urban planning, and interior design.

He explained that students will work in teams to develop practical designs that meet the needs of residents. The project employs a participatory approach, involving field studies to gather residents’ opinions and assess their needs, particularly focusing on women and girls, to create a design that aligns with the local context.

Ms. Ilham, President of the “Initiatives for Women’s Rights Protection” association, highlighted the project as the start of a fruitful partnership between the university, the association, the local council, the Ministry of National Territorial Development, and UN Women. She noted that the mobile park would serve as a model for collaboration between academic institutions and civil society to achieve sustainable development.

The project will present four innovative designs, one of which will be selected for implementation. It is expected to significantly improve the urban environment, strengthen residents’ sense of belonging, and provide valuable field experience for students, enhancing their professional skills and readiness for the job market.
