Rabat – Upon the high instructions of His Majesty the King, the Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, General of the Army Mohammed Berrich, the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Region, chaired the meeting of the Moroccan-Mauritanian Joint Military Committee.
A statement from the General Command of the Royal Armed Forces stated that this fifth meeting of the joint committee was attended by General Mekhtar Ould Sembou, Chief of General Staff of the Armies of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. This meeting provided an opportunity for the two parties to review the results of the cooperation during 2024 and plan the joint activities for 2025.
The military officials praised the distinguished level of cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania in various fields, particularly security and defense, as well as training and exchange of experiences. They also emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation in the field of border security and combating illegal immigration and cross-border activities, in order to contribute to the stability of the region.
On the same day, the Delegate Minister to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, Mr. Abdellatif Loudiyi, received General Mekhtar Ould Sembou at the Ministry of Defense in Rabat. The two sides expressed their satisfaction with the level of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries, affirming their ambition to strengthen these exemplary ties.
It should be noted that military cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania began in 1971 and was crowned in 2006 by the signing of a memorandum of understanding establishing the Joint Military Committee to enhance cooperation in the field of defense.
