The meeting hall at the Meknes Prefecture annex witnessed, on Friday evening, November 8, 2024, the installation ceremony of Mr. Ahmed Sabir as the new Secretary-General of Meknes Prefecture, attended by several local and regional officials.
A Career Rich in Achievements
Mr. Ahmed Sabir, born in Kenitra in 1968, holds a doctorate in Law and graduated from the Royal Institute of Territorial Administration (Batch 34). He began his career as an administrator at the Fida-Mers Sultan Prefecture between 2012 and 2018, then served as Secretary-General in the provinces of El Hajeb and Khemisset between 2018 and 2024, before being appointed this year as the new Secretary-General of Meknes Prefecture.
Promising Development Projects Serving Meknes Population
During his installation speech, Mr. Ahmed Sabir emphasized his commitment to achieving sustainable development in the region, explaining that development work in Meknes will continue under his supervision to achieve ambitious development goals.
The development projects launched in Meknes Prefecture include:
- National Initiative for Human Development: 355 million dirhams allocated to support 684 projects across the prefecture
- Historical Monuments Rehabilitation: 800 million dirhams allocated for maintaining historical landmarks
- Urban Development Programs: 549 million dirhams for completing main streets improvement
- Wastewater Treatment: 800 million dirhams project to convert the current treatment plant
- New Industrial Zone: 65-hectare industrial zone to be established at 228 million dirhams
- Multi-specialty Hospital: 327 million dirhams investment
- Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market Development: 180 million dirhams
- Road Network Rehabilitation: 369 million dirhams allocated for road network development
Regional Development Prospects (2024-2027)
Meknes Prefecture aims to implement 39 development projects with a total cost of 3.08 billion dirhams as part of the second phase of the Regional Development Program. Additionally, 90 million dirhams have been allocated to support “Cities Without Slums” and establish sports schools and multi-disciplinary technical schools to improve education and training quality.
With this new appointment, Meknes residents hope to see more investments and development projects that will benefit the region and its population.
