In the seventh point of the declaration signed between Morocco and France, Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara was emphasized as one of the pivotal foundations of the exceptional partnership between both countries. French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his steadfast support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007 as the only realistic solution to the conflict. He also expressed his recognition that the future of the Western Sahara must be within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, emphasizing that this solution is the only one compatible with UN Security Council resolutions.
This French position strengthens Morocco’s stance on the Sahara issue and confirms the ongoing support the kingdom enjoys in the international arena, with France’s commitment to effectively accompanying Morocco’s efforts in achieving economic and social development in this region.
This commitment formed a fundamental basis for enhancing bilateral cooperation within the framework of the “Exceptional and Strong Partnership,” where both countries seek to present an effective model of regional and international cooperation to address common challenges, including promoting stability and development in the region.
