A recent report issued by the Reuters Institute for Digital News for the year 2024 has revealed that Moroccan citizens have become increasingly susceptible to rumors and misinformation. The report attributes this phenomenon to two main factors: excessive use of social media and declining trust in traditional media outlets.
The study, which covered 47 countries worldwide, showed that the level of trust in news among Moroccans is notably low, not exceeding 31%. Based on these results, Morocco ranked 38th among the countries included in the survey.
This report raises serious questions about the future of the media landscape in Morocco and its impact on public opinion. It also highlights the need to enhance media literacy and develop mechanisms for verifying information in light of the proliferation of digital platforms.
The biggest challenge facing decision-makers and media institutions in Morocco remains restoring public trust and providing reliable media content that meets the needs of citizens in the digital information age.
