Morocco Renews Support for UAE in the Case of Three Islands Occupied by Iran

Morocco has reaffirmed its firm and consistent support for the United Arab Emirates in the case of the three Emirati islands occupied by Iran. This affirmation came from Ambassador Omar Hilale, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations.

Ambassador Hilale emphasized Morocco’s steadfast support for the territorial integrity of the United Arab Emirates, confirming its full and permanent sovereignty over the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa. He added that the Kingdom strongly backs the Emirati demands to end the Iranian occupation of these islands.

Regarding ways to resolve this dispute, the Moroccan ambassador clarified that his country supports the UAE’s position calling for a solution either through direct negotiations with Iran or by resorting to the International Court of Justice as a legal means to settle the dispute.

This Moroccan stance comes within the framework of brotherly relations and Arab solidarity between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, as well as in the context of ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve regional conflicts through peaceful means.

It’s worth noting that the issue of the three Emirati islands has been one of the outstanding issues in the Arab Gulf region since 1971, with the UAE demanding the restoration of its sovereignty over these islands occupied by Iran, while Tehran insists on its right to control them.

Morocco’s firm position reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting just Arab causes and promoting regional stability, while emphasizing the importance of respecting national sovereignty and resolving disputes in accordance with international law.
