Belgium affirmed today, Saturday, its commitment to maintaining the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union, following the European Court of Justice’s ruling regarding the fisheries and agriculture agreements.
The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced through its official account on “X” platform its commitment to continuing work on deepening relations with the Kingdom of Morocco, emphasizing the importance of the historical friendship between both parties.
Brussels expressed its full support for the joint statement issued by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative Josep Borrell. In their statement, the European officials confirmed the EU’s commitment to strengthening its relations with Morocco across all fields, based on the principle of “pacta sunt servanda” (agreements must be kept).
The Belgian position demonstrates European countries’ keen interest in maintaining their strategic relations with Morocco, despite the potential implications of the European Court of Justice’s ruling on trade agreements between both parties.
This stance reflects a broader European understanding of the importance of preserving and enhancing cooperation with Morocco, highlighting the strategic depth of the partnership that goes beyond individual legal decisions.
