In a significant step towards rehabilitating and reintegrating juvenile inmates, the Bourkais Local Prison in Fez held a preparatory meeting on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, to implement the “Prisons Without Return” program. This rehabilitation program, launched by the General Delegate for Prison Administration and Reintegration on July 11, 2023, at Tamesna Local Prison, primarily aims to address recidivism among juvenile offenders.
The meeting was chaired by the institution’s director, Mr. Abdelwahab Adrabi, accompanied by the prison’s social supervisor and representatives from various concerned parties, including:
- Judicial authorities of Fez
- Local authorities
- Scientific Council
- Regional Human Rights Commission
- Accompaniment and Reintegration Center in Fez
- Other partners of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration
During the meeting, participants discussed ways to implement the program and formulate an initial project containing concepts and proposals regarding its content and units. Following the discussions, the meeting’s outcomes were drafted, and a visit was conducted to the rehabilitation space and the pedagogical center within the institution, where the programs will be implemented.
This program comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration to improve inmates’ conditions, especially juveniles, and provide them with the necessary skills and support to prevent their return to crime after release.
The implementation of the “Prisons Without Return” program at Bourkais Local Prison in Fez is expected to enhance the chances of reintegrating juvenile inmates into society and reduce recidivism rates, benefiting society as a whole.
