Residents of Fez Neighborhoods Demand Local Authorities’ Urgent Intervention to Solve Sanitation and Road Paving Issues

Residents of Al-Fadila 3, Al-Burj, and Riad Al-Yasmine neighborhoods in Ain Al-Chkef road, Fez, have submitted multiple complaints to local authorities, demanding urgent intervention to address sanitation problems and road paving in their area.

In letters addressed to the President of Saiss district, the Wali of Fez-Meknes region, the President of Fez Urban Community, and the Commander of Ain Amir Administrative Annex in Fez, dated October 2, 2024, residents expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the deteriorating situation in their neighborhoods.

The complaints included the following points:

  1. Accumulation and spread of waste in the neighborhood streets, especially at the intersection of Rabat and Nozha streets, and at the end of Nozha street in Al-Burj and the area in front of Al-Jawamaa mosque.
  2. Severe lack of cleaning services and irregular passage of garbage collection trucks.
  3. Absence of street sweepers to ensure the cleanliness of alleys and streets.
  4. Failure to collect existing waste, resulting in its accumulation, emission of foul odors, and insect proliferation.
  5. Severe shortage of waste containers and their improper distribution within neighborhoods, which has led to some areas becoming black spots that serve as public dumping grounds.

Residents also demanded the completion of paving Irfan and Nozha streets and the remaining part of Azghir street in Al-Fadila 3, despite previous promises and numerous correspondences. They pointed out the necessity of paving the remaining part of Al-Wahda street between Blanco Pharmacy and Al-Hawari Café (about 50 meters) between Al-Fadila 3 and Riad Al-Yasmine, as this section has only one lane where it’s impossible for two cars to pass each other, leading to traffic obstruction and frequent accidents.

These complaints were signed by a number of area residents, calling on authorities to intervene urgently to alleviate their hardship and improve their living conditions.
