On the morning of Sunday, 25 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1446 AH, corresponding to September 29, 2024, the regional committee meeting of the Justice and Development Party was held in the city of Fes.
This meeting was dedicated to discussing a range of political and organizational issues in the context of the ongoing Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip, which has extended to the West Bank and Lebanon, highlighting the barbarity of this entity and its disregard for international charters and resolutions, as well as the potential dangerous repercussions at the regional and international levels.
Members of the committee expressed their concern about the worsening social conditions in Morocco, which are experiencing an unprecedented wave of inflation, particularly in the prices of essential goods. They also noted the ongoing strikes in various sectors such as justice, health, and education. The committee addressed the challenges faced during the school year due to the cancellation of the “Million Backpack” initiative, which was replaced by lesser support affecting a large number of families. Additionally, they highlighted the strike of medical and pharmacy students, which has lasted for more than ten months, threatening another academic year without education.
The members also reviewed the rising unemployment rates, especially among youth and graduates, and the resulting despair and frustration that have led to mass migration attempts by thousands of young people in the Al-Hoceima region.
The committee pointed out the lack of governmental response to these pressing issues.
At the level of local communities in the region, several cities, including Fes, Meknes, and Taza, have witnessed legal actions against a number of mayors and their deputies, resulting in the suspension or stagnation of many local development projects and proximity services.
The members expressed their dissatisfaction with the poor implementation of regional development programs, especially those related to economic stimulation, employment promotion, and reducing regional disparities.
Regarding the party’s status, committee members expressed their appreciation for the dynamism experienced by the party’s General Secretariat through its statements and the organizational efforts undertaken by the Secretary-General and members of the General Secretariat.
They also praised the distinguished work of the party’s parliamentary group and the positive impact of the eighteenth national meeting of the Youth of the Justice and Development Party.
After presenting reports from regional secretariats and parallel bodies, an extensive discussion was held, during which committee members agreed on the following points:
- Condemnation of the Ongoing Zionist Aggression: They condemned the continuous aggression against Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Yemen, as well as the assassination campaigns targeting symbols of resistance in the region, led by the extremist Netanyahu’s administration in blatant defiance of international laws.
- Call for Government Responsibility: They urged the Moroccan government to take responsibility for ensuring citizens’ dignified living conditions and addressing social issues with the necessary wisdom, rather than ignoring them.
- Emphasis on Democratic Governance: They stressed that the current situation in managing the Fes-Meknes region and its various municipalities is a natural result of the September 8 elections, necessitating a return to democratic methodologies and lifting restrictions on political parties, instead of relying on makeshift solutions.
- Mobilization of Party Bodies: They called on all party bodies in the Fes-Meknes region to further rally around the party’s project and work to succeed in ongoing initiatives in preparation for the upcoming national conference and the subsequent elections.
