Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez, in collaboration with several international institutions, is organizing an international symposium titled “Oral and Regional Heritage in Scientific Research and University and School Education.” The event will take place from October 1 to 4, 2024, at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Fez.
This symposium is part of the project “Cultural Diversity and Heritage of the Mediterranean: Regional and Oral Cultures in Tunisia, Morocco, and Germany,” which aims to build a network between academic actors and civil society from these regions to develop a collaborative research project.
Detailed Program:
Day 1 – October 1, 2024:
08:30 – 09:00: Participant registration and welcome.
09:00 – 09:45: Opening ceremony, with welcoming speeches by the University President, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and other distinguished figures.
10:15 – 11:00: Keynote lecture on “Oral Heritage and Sustainable Development Goals.”
11:00 – 12:30: Discussion sessions on “The Role of Women in Knowledge Transmission and Identity Building,” followed by an open discussion.
14:30 – 16:50: Panels on “Media and Virtual Heritage,” focusing on the role of technology in preserving cultural heritage.
Day 2 – October 2, 2024:
Parallel sessions on social heritage and cultural values, featuring academics from Morocco, Tunisia, and Germany. Topics include Moroccan proverbs and their role in identity, and intangible heritage in southern Tunisia.
Day 3 – October 3, 2024:
Workshops on storytelling techniques in oral heritage.
A cultural tour of Fez’s old city, including visits to pottery artisans.
Day 4 – October 4, 2024:
Educational and cultural excursion to the city of Meknes and the archaeological site of Volubilis.
