Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Foreign Minister, highlighted on Monday in New York King Mohammed VI’s Atlantic Initiative for the Sahel during a ministerial meeting chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Bourita stated that the aim of the Royal Initiative is to enable African countries to take ownership of their development process. He pointed out that the African Atlantic coast comprises 23 countries, represents 70% of the continent’s population, and accounts for 40% of inter-African trade.
The Moroccan minister also praised the efforts of the United States in bringing together Atlantic countries from all continents around common goals. He expressed his conviction that no country or continent can overcome the challenges of the Atlantic alone.
This statement comes as part of Morocco’s diplomatic efforts to enhance regional and international cooperation in development, with a focus on Morocco’s role as a bridge between Africa and other Atlantic basin countries.
